It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has accomplished all there is.

It needed until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not afforded the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Then best known as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has witnessed all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her bow and seven world titles have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Certain people claim the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that the batsman was underway.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success succeeding win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing through the pain.

However although she later admitted those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a global event as captain.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
