The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any major awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
